Many of us wonder what it means when something is labeled organic. The Organic label is designed to designate how a food product is grown. Essentially, this means that farmers who cultivates organic products must use natural pesticides to rid the crops of invasive bugs and must also use natural products to keep weeds at bay. In addition, organic farmers must enrich the soil with natural mulch, and use organic fertilizers.
Organic fertilizers contain nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. The compound may also have a small amount of other minerals, enzymes, and vitamins which must be labeled as organic matter. Sometimes positive predators and microorganisms are added to the soil to help defend the food product from harmful bacteria and microbes.

For the most part, weeds are managed with proper crop selection and with the rotation of fields. All seeds and farm equipment must be scrupulously clean. This means that sewage, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are not allowed in the neighborhood where organic crops are grown. In addition, organic growers need to maintain records to prove that they are maintaining the basic health and welfare of the soil.
The best organic food is found on farms that are close to where you live. It is best to buy organic products at farmers’ markets. You could also go directly to a family’s organic farm to purchase fresh organic products and sustainably grown food. These healthy items include produce, grass-fed meats, fruits and spices.

The tastiest organic food choices are also available in the produce sections of health stores and natural food markets. These stores offer wide varieties of natural and ancient grains that are becoming more and more popular as shoppers learn more about their health benefits.

When growers follow Food and Drug Administration strict standards regarding organic foods, shoppers seeking the best food for their families are eager to find outlets that sell healthier choices.
